Harvest 2023 (including crush, fermentations, and barreling down) officially ended for us last week. What a marathon! We found ourselves reminiscing about an emotional line from the cult classic Sideways:

“I like to think about what was going on the year the grapes were growing. I like to think about how the sun was shining that summer, and what the weather was like. I think about all those people who tended and picked the grapes. And if it’s an old wine, how many of them must be dead by now.”

2023 Sonoma Valley Grape Harvesting Season!

Sonoma Valley bursts with vibrancy and exhilaration as the harvest season unfolds each year between August and October.

The start of Harvest 2023 in California is notably delayed, unfolding nearly three weeks later than the usual schedule. A combination of abundant winter rainfall, a chilly spring, and an early summer has significantly prolonged the grapes' maturation period. As a result, we are observing grapes reaching their optimal ripeness with lower sugar levels and higher acidity, resembling a French vintage more than a Californian one.
